The Demon‘s Bridge
پل شیطان
A young woman‘s cow had crossed the river in the morning when the water level was moderate.
گاوِ زن جوانی صبح که سطح آب متوسط بود از رودخانه عبور کرده بود.
But when the woman returned with her dog to get the cow, she was overwhelmed by how high the water had risen.
اما وقتی زن با سگش برگشت تا گاو را برگرداند، از دیدن مقدار بالا آمدن آب آشفته شد.
Even if she crossed, she still couldn’t lead her cow back through the river.
حتی اگر عبور میکرد، باز هم نمیتوانست گاوش را به داخل رودخانه برگرداند.
“What am I going to do” she wondered.
با خود فکر کرد: «حالا چی کار کنم؟
Suddenly, a man appeared across the river.
ناگهان، مردی در آن طرف رودخانه ظاهر شد.
“A fragile young lady like you shouldn’t have to work so hard to get across a river,” he said, “I‘ll build you a bridge“.
او گفت: «خانم جوان آسیبپذیری مثل شما نباید مجبور بشه برای رد شدن از رودخانه خیلی سخت کار کنه، من برای شما پل میسازم».
The man was not the usual kind of person she met.
این مرد نوع عادیای نبود که با او ملاقات کرد.
The young woman‘s perception of him was that he was a sociable person.
برداشت زن جوان از او این بود که او فردی اجتماعی است.
He was talkative, yet something was strange about him.
پرحرف بود، با این حال چیزی درمورد او عجیب بود.
But her innocence allowed her to trust the man.
اما معصومیتش اجازه داد به مرد اعتماد کند.
“I don’t want to be a burden to you, sir,” the woman replied.
زن گفت: «من نمیخوام زحمتتون بدم، آقا.
“Don’t worry,” he told her as he began crafting a bridge.
» مرد همینطور که شروع به ساخت پل میکرد گفت: «نگران نباش.
He merged the pieces of the bridge together with amazing speed.
او قطعات پل را با سرعت شگفتانگیزی به هم متصل کرد.
Soon, it was finished.
بهزودی، آن را به پایان رساند.
“Oh, but how can I give you money for your work?
زن گفت: «اوه، اما من چطور میتونم برای کار شما پول بدهم؟
Let‘s compromise.
بیاید سازش کنیم.
I am sure that we can find a fair solution.
من مطمئنم که میتونیم راهحل عادلانهای پیدا کنیم.
What do you think” the woman asked.
نظر شما چیه؟
“The only payment I need is the first living thing that crosses the bridge,” the man replied.
» مرد جواب داد: «تنها پرداختی که من نیاز دارم اولین موجود زندهایه که از روی پل عبور میکنه».
She thought, “This deal sounds strange.
زن فکر کرد: «این معامله عجیبه.
Maybe he‘s actually a river demon?
شاید او در واقع یه دیو رودخانه باشه؟
” She shivered because she realized that he had taken advantage of her and settled the deal somehow.
» او لرزید چون فهمید که مرد از او سوءاستفاده کرده و بهنوعی معامله را ترتیب دادهاست.
But she had a plan of her own.
اما او نقشهی خودش را داشت.
She pulled a piece of bread from her pocket and threw it across the bridge.
او یک تکه نان از جیبش بیرون آورد و آن را به آن طرف پل انداخت.
Her dog ran after it.
سگش دنبالش دوید.
“The dog is the first living thing across the bridge,” she said to the man.
او به مرد گفت: «سگ اولین موجود زندهی اون طرف پله.
The man was angry.
مرد عصبانی بود.
He suddenly changed into a half–human and half–fish.
او ناگهان به یک نیمهانسان و نیمهماهی تبدیل شد.
“What‘s the matter with you” he shouted.
فریاد زد: «مشکلت چیه!
“You tricked me.
تو من رو فریب دادی.
I have no use for your dog!
سگ تو به درد من نمیخوره!
” he screamed and dived into the river.
» فریاد زد و به داخل رودخانه شیرجه رفت.
The woman sped across the bridge to the other side and had a happy meeting with her dog and cow.
زن با سرعت از آن طرف پل به طرف دیگر رفت و با سگ و گاوش ملاقات خوشی داشت.
