“Deer in the Headlights”

مثل آهوی تو نور ماشین / خشک شدن از تعجب / شوکه شدن و میخکوب شدن / گیج و مبهوت موندن

“Headlights” are the two bright lights in front of a car.

«Headlights» دو چراغ روشن جلوی ماشینه.

But what does a deer have to do with headlights?

اما آهو چه ربطی به چراغ‌های جلو داره؟

I cannot believe you got to meet Hillary Clinton! That must have been so incredible.

باورم نمی‌شه که هیلاری کلینتون رو دیدی! حتماً خیلی باورنکردنی بوده.

I know. It was so incredible that I couldn’t say anything! I was like a deer caught in headlights!

می‌دونم. اونقدر باورنکردنی بود که نمی‌تونستم هیچی بگم! مثل آهویی بودم که تو نور چراغ ماشین گیر افتاده!

Well, that’s understandable. But maybe next time you won’t have that “deer in the headlights” look!

خب، این قابل درکه. اما شاید دفعه‌ی بعد اون قیافه‌ی «آهوی تو نور ماشین» رو نداشته باشی!

If a deer is on the road at night and a car is coming, it stands still, doing nothing, until its eyes can adjust to the bright lights.

اگه آهو شب تو جاده باشه و ماشینی بیاد، بی‌حرکت می‌ایسته، هیچ کاری نمی‌کنه، تا چشماش به نور روشن عادت کنه.

This, unfortunately, puts the deer in danger.

این متأسفانه آهو رو تو خطر می‌ذاره.

If someone says you look like a “deer in the headlights,” it means you look frozen with surprise, shock or maybe even fear.

اگه کسی بگه تو مثل «deer in the headlights» به نظر میای، یعنی از تعجب، شوک یا شاید حتی ترس میخکوب شدی.
