What’s the Catch?

As a verb, to catch means to capture or hold on to something.

به عنوان فعل، «catch» یعنی گرفتن یا نگه داشتن چیزی.

As a noun, it’s a game where two people throw and catch a ball.

به عنوان اسم، یه بازیه که دو نفر توپ رو پرتاب می‌کنن و می‌گیرن.

You know that house I was looking at last week?

می‌دونی اون خونه‌ای که هفته‌ی پیش نگاه می‌کردم؟

Yes.

آره.

Well, I checked this morning, and the price went down from $200,000 to $75,000!

خب، امروز صبح چک کردم، و قیمت از ۲۰۰ هزار دلار اومده پایین به ۷۵ هزار دلار!

Wow! That sounds great!

واو! این که عالی به نظر میاد!

But Jonathan, what’s the catch?

اما جاناتان، گیر کار چیه؟ / مشکلش کجاست؟

The owner said last week’s rain storm completely flooded the basement and first floor.

صاحب خونه گفت طوفان هفته‌ی پیش زیرزمین و همکف رو کامل زیر آب برده.

We use the phrase “what’s the catch” when something sounds too good for it to be possible.

ما از عبارت «what’s the catch» استفاده می‌کنیم وقتی چیزی اونقدر خوب به نظر میاد که باورکردنی نیست.

If something sounds too good, there may be a catch.

اگه چیزی زیادی خوب به نظر بیاد، ممکنه یه مشکلی توش باشه.
